Townhomes
An Urban Model
According to the Kinder Institute, about 30,000 detached townhomes were built within Houston’s outer loop between 2005 and 2018. The majority of these homes were undoubtedly developer-designed and copy-pasted, often without regard for neighborhood context or relationships between the interior and exterior. Yet, they represent a disproportionate share of Houston’s new housing stock as compared to other major cities in the United States.
UltraBarrio was eager to approach the townhome problem from the urban design perspective at the request of a client seeking to compliment the locale and curate multiple outdoor social spaces for residents.
