Southwest Civic Pavilion
The first building to be developed from the ‘Southwest Civic Core Campus Plan’ is the Community Pavilion that fulfills the gaps in community supportive programming expressed by multiple stakeholders. These stakeholders provide much needed services within Gulfton, which is the epicenter of immigrant culture and density where more than 50 languages are spoken from over 40 countries. Each entity’s struggle for space limits access to services such as medical, family and individual assistance, and educational.
The Civic Core Pavilion extends the relationship and services from the County’s existing Multi-Service Center and provides the community with dedicated spaces that fulfill demand and use for Seniors Programming, Family Event Programming, Community/Meeting Rooms, Shared Kitchen, and a Full-Service Library. In addition, a need is identified for the Pavilion be a ‘Resilience Hub’ that can serve the community post-disaster and transform into a distribution center and a place for temporary shelter.
The goal for the Southwest Civic Core Pavilion is to maximize how existing organizations can thrive to support the community and provide an inclusive public space where the community can build trust and receive services they need. The project is currently in design development and has secured partial public funds for construction.
